ANSWERS

What are the benefits of partner dancing?

Our students enjoy partner dancing for all kinds of reasons— entertainment, meeting new people, relaxation, year-round exercise, improving coordination and rhythm, or simply having a creative outlet. Mostly it’s just plain fun! All of us here at DanceWorks can attest to the positive mental and physical benefits of dancing. It can literally transform your life.

How do I get started?

If you’re just starting we highly recommend you look at our Introductory Sampler lesson package. This package is a great way to try a variety of dances, experience both private and group instruction at DanceWorks, all at a budget-friendly cost. Some new students prefer to jump right into Group Classes. Feel free to join any Level 1 class. Series classes start the first week of every month. Other classes can be joined at any time.

What types of dance do you teach?

We offer lessons in many kinds of social dancing-- Salsa, Swing, Tango, and many other ballroom dances. Check out our Calendar to see specifically what classes are being offered currently.

When are classes held?

We offer classes on weeknight evenings and midday on Saturdays. Check out our Calendar for exact scheduling. Most of our classes are Series Classes which are a set of four classes held on the same day and time each week throughout the month. New classes start the first week of every month.

How do I register for classes?

We offer easy registering online for our classes.  If you have any questions feel free to call us at 425.869.7595.

What if I prefer to register in person?

No problem. Drop by anytime during our open hours and our staff can help you register. If you’d like to register just prior to the start of class, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes before the start of class to allow time for payment and registration. To speed up registration you can fill out the New Student Registration form beforehand and bring a copy to class.

How do I logon to DanceWorks?

On this website menu select “Register” (top of this page, right below our logo) which will take you to DanceWorks’ online scheduler. On the scheduler website you can enter your login and password info in the top right corner of the webpage. If it is your first time visiting the site, select “Sign up!” (right below login boxes) and the tool will set you up with logon information.

What can I do when I logon to DanceWorks?

Once logged in to DanceWorks’ online scheduler you can register for classes, purchase specials in the online store, update your contact info, review your upcoming schedule, or check your lesson balance. Feel free to give us a call if you have questions.

Do you offer private instruction?

Yes! Many of our students enjoy the one-on-one attention and value of private lessons. Check out our Private Lessons page to get an overview of what we offer.

What times of day can I take private lessons?

Private lessons are available most anytime the studio is open—afternoons, evenings, and mid-day on Saturdays. Call us at 425.869.7595 to find out more and to schedule.

How do I sign up for private lessons?

We are happy to help you sign up for private lessons in person or over the phone at 425.869.7595.

Do I need a partner in order to take lessons or classes?

Absolutely not. If you have a spouse, partner, or friend that you want to take lessons with, that's fine but is not required. In private lessons, your instructor can teach you equally well by yourself or with a partner. In group classes, where there is often a mix of singles and couples, we rotate dance partners frequently. This helps everyone refine their skills, meet new people, and make new friends.

What’s a ‘lead’ or a ‘follow’?

In partner dancing, one of the partners (the lead) will be the one initiating the dance moves and the other partner will follow (hence, the name ‘follow’) the move. Traditionally the man is the lead and the woman is the follow. That said, if you are a man who would like to learn how to follow, or a woman who would like to lead, we are happy to accommodate—just let your instructor know at the start of class.

Do I need to be a student to attend DanceWorks dance parties?

Absolutely not! Our parties are open to the general public. Check our parties page for more information.

Do you teach children? Is there a minimum age to take lessons?

Currently our studio is not set up to teach young children. However, mature teens are most welcome. Our parties are ‘all ages’. We have also taught custom group classes for teens. Call us to find out if this could work for your teen group.

What should I wear? Do I need special shoes?

Wear clothes that you are comfortable moving in. For shoes we recommend either a suede soled dance shoe, or any shoe with a regular smooth-leather sole. Sneakers, canvas deck-shoes, tennis shoes, or anything else with a rubber sole should be avoided-- they grip far too much for comfortable dancing. For more, check out our dance shoes page.

I’ve seen dancing on TV. Do I need to spray tan or wear sequins to do this?

Absolutely not! All joking aside, while we occasionally offer special dance events where elegant attire (with or without sequins) is encouraged, most students in our classes are dressed very Northwest casual. Jeans, khakis, skirts, dresses… whatever you feel comfortable moving in.

I’m getting married. Do you offer special lesson packages for wedding couples?

Congratulations! Yes, we offer some wedding dance packages that are especially geared towards the first dance at your wedding.

Do you have a mailing list?

Yes! Join our email list to keep up to date on what’s happening at DanceWorks. We hate spam as much as anyone so we try to be really efficient with what we send out—there’s always a monthly newsletter and occasional other mailings about special events or offers.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes! Gift certificates can be purchased in person, over the phone, or online.

When are your hours?

DanceWorks is open Mon – Thurs from 1pm to 10pm, Friday from 3pm – 11:30pm, and Saturday from 11am until 3pm.
